Hey everyone, Navitha and Alistair here. So, we're getting married! April 30th and May 2nd, 2025 – mark your calendars.
We're super excited, obviously, but we've also been doing a lot of thinking lately, especially about the whole wedding thing.
You know, we went to this wedding a while back, and it was beautiful, right? Amazing food, everyone having a blast. But then, we started noticing all the waste. Like, mountains of it. All those disposable plates and decorations... it kind of hit us. We started looking into it, and honestly, it's pretty shocking how much waste Indian weddings produce. Like, hundreds of kilos of trash! It just didn't sit right with us.
We started talking about our own wedding, and we knew we couldn't do the whole big, wasteful thing. It just felt... wrong. We love the planet, and we wanted our wedding to reflect that. So, we're doing things a bit differently, and we’re asking for your help, too. We know it might seem a little unusual, but we really want to make this as low waste as possible. Instead of bringing huge bouquets, maybe just a single flower or something with minimal packaging? Bring your own handkerchief, and a refillable water bottle? We're trying to cut down on single-use stuff. And, honestly, instead of traditional gifts, we'd love it if you contributed to our 'dreams' fund. We have a link we can share.
Here’s a real tip: If you're coming to the wedding, try to avoid buying anything new in single-use plastic packaging. We know it's hard, but even small choices make a difference.
We're not trying to be preachy or anything. It's just... we've realized that even small choices can make a difference. And honestly, we're a bit freaked out by the reality of plastic. You know how those disposable plates and cutlery are everywhere at weddings? Well, they don't just disappear. They end up in landfills, or worse, in our oceans. And it takes hundreds of years for them to break down. We've all seen it around us and during our travels, and it's honestly heartbreaking to see the impact on wildlife.
We want our wedding to be a celebration of our love, but also a celebration of our commitment to our home mother earth. We think love and being conscious about our choices can totally go hand in hand.
Another tip: If you're staying at a hotel, skip the daily plastic water bottles. Bring a reusable one. And if you’re gifting us something for our creative project fund, remember that even a small amount helps, and it helps us build a more safe and nurturing future together. We are also trying to be very careful in the choice of vendors, and ensuring they do not use plastic products.
Honestly, this whole thing has been a bit of a journey for us. We've learned so much, and we're still learning. We're not perfect, and we know we'll probably make mistakes along the way. But we're trying, and we hope you'll join us. We're really excited to share this special day with you, and we're grateful for your support in making it a little kinder to the Earth.
One last thing: When you're thinking about gifts, consider gifting experiences or things made from sustainable materials, instead of more plastic items that will eventually add up to our collective trash. Or just ask us. We are trying to keep our wedding as plastic-free as possible. Thanks for being a part of our story!
